A Log Fit For Burning

Someone just posted some spam on my site that I deleted. It was a message which I think was meant to inspire me or something.

It said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” I googled this phrase and it seems to be attributed to Albert Einstein. I know there are dozens of apocryphal Einstein quotes and I hope this is one of them because it is fairly vacuous. My understanding of a miracle is an event that is so improbable that most consider it impossible. If everything is classified as a miracle then it seems to me that the concept of a miracle would become meaningless and therefore nothing would be a miracle. So, living your life as though everything is a miracle is the same as living your life as though nothing is a miracle. As long as we’re on the subject of apocryphal Einstein quotes, I’d like to invent one :

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though everything can be neatly divided up into two opposing groups of a trivial nature. The other is as though life gets boring if you fail to engage your mind in concepts not readily understood by someone driving behind you.”
